Atom Bicycles Ltd. is the creation of Joel, a passionate cyclist. It all started over 20 years ago, when Joel and his friends decided to try what was then a new sport: mountain biking.

Since that day, bikes have been an integral part of his world. Working downtown Ottawa for many years, Joel would tell you that the fun part about his day job back then was to ride in and out of the downtown core zigzagging between cars. For him, this was much more appealing than having to live the painful experience of riding on a bus. Another aspect of Joel’s passion for bikes was competing. He took part, and still does, in many international, national, provincial and regional mountain bike, road bike, adventure and off-road triathlon races.

Being on his bike almost year round meant that Joel had to replace bike parts on a regular basis. This was especially true during winter time because of the harsh conditions. Same for his race bikes; he always wanted to get that new cool, lighter, colourful part in order to be different, to personalize his bikes.

And then, five years ago, that passion brought him to Calgary to work in the bicycle industry and in the sporting goods retail industry. That professional opportunity made him realize that a void in the Canadian cycling sphere and in North America in general needed to be filled for people like him, for people like you.
